Glaucoma is an eye disease in which the optic nerve is damaged, leading to progressive loss of vision. It is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. Glaucoma drainage implant (GDI) is a main category of surgical devices for the treatment of various types of glaucoma. Researchers have now proposed modified GDI design that uses a microfluidic meshwork in the fluid drainage region. The design of the meshwork was inspired by recently developed brain implants.
